Domestic design, German quality – this is how the combination works
Novafloor manufactures its parquet flooring in Germany, but the entire product design, appearance, shade and finish are created in Finland. This is the essence of the Design from Finland brand: the product is designed for Finnish homes, for the Finnish way of life and especially for the Finnish climate.
Finnish design is reflected, for example, in the fact that the floors are made to measure. Each floor is a tailor-made package, with carefully considered colour tones, surface texture and finish.
Novafloor’s slogan “German quality, domestic finish” sums up both the technical and aesthetic promise: the wood raw material is top quality, but its final look and quality are created in Finland.
What does a domestic design look like on the floor surface?
Novafloor carries out a significant part of its product development in its own laboratory, where oil waxes, pigments and shades are tested, developed and polished. “We don’t do lacquered floors at all. It’s a decision based on the Nordic interior design approach: oil varnished flooring is natural, matt and has a genuine wood feel,” says Markus Myllymäki, CEO.
When it comes to developing shades, Myllymäki says they work like a modern paint factory: ‘We identify trends, but at the same time we make sure that the end result stands the test of time,’ he laughs. The colour palette is designed especially for Finnish and Scandinavian homes, where natural, harmonious tones, clear wood grain patterns and a matt, soft touch are appreciated.
All this is at the heart of the Design from Finland label. “The product is not only technically functional, but aesthetically just right for Nordic homes,” Myllymäki sums up.

Why is the Design from Finland label important to the customer?
“For the customer, the brand is first and foremost a sign that the flooring is designed for here – for these homes, this climate and this lifestyle,” says the CEO.
The certificate is also a concrete promise of quality. The design is not generic or mass-produced, but the shades, textures and materials are carefully considered. The product is also resistant to Finnish temperature and humidity fluctuations, while the aesthetics are in keeping with Nordic interior design.
From the consumer’s point of view, the certificate makes it easier to choose a floor: the product is backed by a transparent story, development work and Finnish design culture.
“For us, the Design from Finland label is a promise of Finnish design, uncompromising finishing and products that are created for our homes,” Myllymäki sums up.
